William Lee Shiver

Mr. William Lee Shiver, 75, of Dawson, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, June 21, 2018. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 in the chapel of Joseph W. Jones Funeral Home, 375 US Highway 19 S. Leesburg, GA 31763. Rev. Dennis Young and Rev. Melvin Slappy will officiate. Following the services Mr. Shiver will be laid to rest in Leesburg Cemetery. Mr. Shiver was born May 19, 1943, in Albany, GA to the late William C. and Mamie Hall Shiver. Mr. Shiver worked for over 48 years in law enforcement with several agencies in the area and retired as Colonel with the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Department. He truly loved serving the community as a law enforcement officer. Mr. Shiver was considered to be a “Family Man” who loved his wife, children, and grandchildren as well as his pets. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the communities he proudly served. William Shiver is survived by his beloved wife, Emma Jean Shiver; his sons, Bobby Lee Shiver and Michael Scott Shiver both of Albany; his daughters and son in law, Valerie Denise Hawkins (Billy) of Lawrenceville, and Jennifer Leigh Shiver of Putney; his sister-in-law Joanne Standerfer of Leesburg; his grandchildren, Jaysie Leigh Jones and Laura Kendall Duckworth; his great granddaughter, Lily Leigh Rose Howard, and numerous nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral service beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
