William Joseph Kirksey

Mr. William Joseph Kirksey, 80, of Leesburg, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at his home while surrounded by his beloved family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 22, 2024, in the chapel of Joseph W. Jones Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Melvin Slappy will officiate with interment to follow in Live Oak Cemetery, in Baker County.

Born June 11, 1944, in Baker County, Mr. Kirksey was the son of the late Charles Bostwick Kirksey and Bexie Musgrove Kirksey. He graduated from Baker County High School in 1962. He worked as the superintendent/general superintendent of LRA Construction in Albany for several years, later retired from Alcon Associates, and most recently worked with his son Joey as superintendent for WJ Kirksey Construction of Lee County. In his earlier years he loved riding horses and later was happy watching a good western. He could fix most anything and never seemed to meet a stranger. Mr. Kirksey attended Kinchafoonee Baptist Church of Leesburg.

 In addition to his parents, Mr. Kirksey was preceded in death by his son, Donnie Williams; grandson, Brandon White, and several siblings.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 44 years, Rosemary Kirksey of Leesburg; children, Joey Kirksey and Janet of Lee County, Shane Kirksey of Leesburg, Becky Coley and Danny of Mitchell County, Carolyn Weslowski and Matt of South Carolina, and Tammy Welch and Tim of Mitchell County; siblings, Pat Mathis of Lee County, Barbara Whitaker of Albany, Deborah Kirksey of Lee County, Wanda Sanders and Steve of Lee County, and Marcia Gatlin and Scott of Lee County; grandchildren, Emily, Will, Kristin, Lee, Katlin, Zachary, Rachel, John, Lakin; and great-grandchildren, Cain, Aeson, Austin, Jr., and Blake.
