Wallis Greene Rehberg

Mrs. Wallis Greene Rehberg, 83, of Leesburg, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at her home while surrounded by her loving family.

Survivors include her husband, Robert F. Rehberg, Sr. of Leesburg, GA; children, Wendy (Joe) Bellacomo of Albany, GA, Jeffrey (Dena) Stokes of Duluth, GA, and Matthew (Vickie) Stokes of Alpharetta, GA; stepchildren, Robert (Suzanne) Rehberg, Jr. of Carrollton, GA, and Nelson Rehberg of Worth County, GA; grandchildren, Kammi (Andrew) Kenney of Parker, CO; Andrew Bellacomo and Emily Rose Bellacomo of Albany, GA; Blake Stokes and Katie Stokes of Alpharetta, GA; Devin (Haley) Rehberg of Pell City, AL, Sierra (Brad) Walker of Ranburne, AL, and Will Yates of Carrollton, GA; and 4 great-grandchildren, Gage Kenney, Keilyn Kenny, and Maddox Kenney of Parker, CO, and Maverick Rehberg of Pell City, AL.

Born on Love Avenue in Tifton, Georgia, on December 10, 1939, to Francis Marion and Dorothy Imogene (Slappey) Greene, Jr., Wallis dedicated her life to being a force of love. Kind and creative, she walked through her life painting only with broad strokes and almost always in bright colors. There was a light that emanated from her warm, brown eyes, from her broad smile, from the clothes she chose to wear and the way she decorated her home. She had a youthfulness and an imaginative mind that imbued all the lives of the people close to her with richness, joy, and color. She did very few things in moderation, and she viewed life through a lens of optimism and vast possibility.

Perhaps most significantly, however, she loved people with an intensity that is rare in this world. Few have loved as openly and as fiercely. When she loved you, she loved you with such enthusiasm it could throw you off balance. While she could, and often did, make friends with virtually any stranger, most of her loving attention was bestowed on her family – her greatest source of joy throughout her life. She always listened, always offered wisdom, always shared kind words when they were needed most, and always was a source of steadfast, unwavering support. In her eyes, you were capable of anything you set your mind to. There was, after all, magic in this world, and, as Walt Whitman wrote, “divine things more beautiful than words can tell.” And the source of that love and beauty was infinite. She had deep faith in the Divine and was the kind of person who could actually make you believe that there was more to life than could be seen and touched.

Her husband of nearly 32 years, Robert Rehberg, recalls lines from a 1942 Jimmy Dorsey song called “I Remember You” when he looks back on their relationship together: “When my life is through/and the angels ask me to recall the thrill of it all/I will tell them I remember you” and said, “The Lord giveth and taketh away. While he keeps your soul, I keep your heart.”

The family is honoring her wishes and all services will be private.
