Ms. Wadene Goode Smith of Albany, GA peacefully stepped into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. She was born in Bronwood, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wade Goode, sisters, Phyllis and Audrey of Bronwood, GA, Doris Goode of Albany GA, Vera (Morrell) Hall of Athens, GA, Nell Etheridge of Auburn, GA and her son, Chuck Smith of Albany, GA.
She is survived by her son, Scott (Betty) Smith of Perryville, MO, daughter, Mauri Smith of Canton, GA, grandchildren, Lauren (Mike) Graf of Jackson, MO, Julie (Mac) Mabry of Glen Allan, MS, Tori (Otto) Davis of Jackson, MO, Tessa (Zach) Gullette of Wapakoneta, OH and great grandchildren, London, Sydney, Kaleb, Mila, Jack, Molly Rae, Mary Mac, Abbi, Hayes and Emmy and her nephews, Mel (Judy) Hall of Atlanta, GA, Wade (Anita) Etheridge and Don Etheridge. And a couple of grandkids she “adopted” in Canton, GA, Evelyn and Isla Keller.
Wadene was employed by the Albany Marine Corps Logistics base for 17 years until she retired. She was a volunteer at Pheobe Putney for many years. She continued to serve her church and would care for so many. She looked after all her neighbors and friends. She resided in Albany for 57 years until she moved to Canton, GA in December 2019 to live with her daughter.
She dedicated her life to the service of her Lord and Savior and to her calling. She served in ministry for more than 60 years teaching children’s church, she started the Missionette program which grew beyond measure, #1 Sunday School teacher, and so much more. She absolutely fulfilled her calling here on earth! She never wavered in her faith! She has left a legacy of faith to those who have come behind her. Stay close to Jesus!
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 20, 2024, in the chapel of Joseph W. Jones Funeral Home with Rev. James Howell officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Following the service the family will gather for a private committal at Bronwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Wilson Hospice House of Albany.
