Vera Dorris Jones

January 10, 1930 — July 4, 2021

“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:6-8) Mrs. Vera Dorris Moye Jones, 91, of Leesburg, GA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Lee County Health and Rehabilitation. She was surrounded by family, staff of LCHR, and our extended family as she made a peaceful transition to her heavenly home. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 31, 2021, in the chapel at Joseph W. Jones Funeral Home, with Steve McBrayer officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service. Mrs. Jones was born January 10, 1930 in Tifton, Ga. As a minister’s wife, Dorris and Johnny traveled many years spreading the word of God and chose Albany as their place to reside in 1976. She was the daughter of the late Rupert Loyd “Jack” Moye and Laurie Whittington Moye. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by the love of her life of 49 years, Rev. John Ashley “Johnny” Jones who passed in 2009; her son, Clarence Wayne McDaniel; her daughter, Mary Linda Armijo; siblings, James Arthur Moye and Thomas Rupert “Tommy” Moye; grandchildren, Michael Dewayne Gwaltney and Carolyn Smith. Mrs. Jones is survived by four daughters, Sandra Sullivan (Ronnie) of Palm Coast, FL, Judy Mercer of Tifton, GA, Bonnie (Keith) Lupton of Leesburg, Pamela (Jasen) Murray of Panama City Beach, FL.; grandchildren: Keith Lupton (Kelly) of Hahira, Paige Kierce (Matt) of Leesburg, Ashley Spurlock (Katie) of Leesburg, Robbie Mercer (Melissa) of Tifton, Elisha Mercer of Tifton, Ronnie Lovett (Tiffany) of Monticello, Wayne Bell (Ian), April Vafias (Tommy) of Tifton, Christopher Bell (Kalah) of Leesburg, and Chuck Gwaltney; great-grandchildren, Abbigail and Matthew Kierce, Colton, Christopher and Lily Grace Lupton, Andrew, Rhiley, Aaden and Alexander Spurlock, Jacob Johnson, Laura Danison, Michael Lovett, Chloe Lovett, Logan and Randi Cone, Zoei Whaley, Kendall and CJ Bell, Shellsea and Randy Smith, Jayden Eaton, Taylor Schumacher, and Matthew Benefield; great- great- grandchildren, Emerson and Grady Lovett, and Chandler Danison; siblings, Jackie Smith and Michael Moye.
