Mr. Ray Jimmy Lanier, 94, of Albany, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 27, 2018 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2018 in the chapel of Joseph W. Jones Funeral Home, 375 US Hwy 19 S. Leesburg, GA 31763. Mr. Lanier will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery following the services. Rev. Tom Newman will officiate. Born August 2, 1923 in Ashburn, Mr. Lanier was the son of the late Barry L. Lanier and Emma Norman Lanier. He was a World War II paratrooper veteran who was the recipient of a Purple Heart. Mr. Lanier graduated from The University of Georgia with a degree in psychology and worked for many years in life insurance sales. He was a member of The American Legion, DAV and was Baptist by faith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lanier was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Rowe Lanier and granddaughter, Marleigh Davis. Survivors include his children, Patsy Davis (Billy) of Leesburg, Dr. Ray Lanier (Terry) of Albany, Cathy Summerlin of Albany and Diane Yeager of Atlanta; grandchildren, Kim Posey, Stephanie Powell, Lee Summerlin, Michael Summerlin, Wayne Posey, Sherry Summerlin, Mallory Owens, Brandy Sanders and Regina Hooks; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald; sister, Jean and his dog, ZSA ZSA. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 30, 2018 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Joseph W. Jones Funeral Home.
