Raiford S. Crawford

Mr. Raiford S. Crawford, 84, of Plains and formerly of Cairo, peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Sumter Retirement Village.

Born July 8, 1938, in Thomasville, Mr. Crawford was the son of the late Thomas S. Crawford and Eva Miller Crawford Hobbs. He worked with the City of Cairo as a lineman and retired with over 40 years of service. Mr. Crawford was a founding member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cairo where he served faithfully for many years as a Deacon. He also served as a Gideon and missions was dear to his heart. Mr. Crawford was a talented handyman who enjoyed making furniture and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his son, Stacey Ray Crawford.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Irene Page Crawford; his daughters, Robin Crawford Glass and Todd of Cordele, and Carol Lynn Stevens and Michael of Panama City, Panama; grandchildren, Wimberly Glass Langley and Austin, Carson Glass, Savannah Stevens, and Parker Stevens; great-granddaughter, Mary Paige Langley; and sisters, Nadine Griffin, and Mable Waters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cairo with Pastor Miles Carter officiating. Following the service, Mr. Crawford will be laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery, in Cairo. The family will greet with friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
