Nancy Ruth Smith

Mrs. Nancy Ruth Whitfield Smith, 71, of Albany, passed away early Sunday morning, May 22, 2016 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Open Door Fellowship 3245 US Highway 82 W Sylvester, GA. 31791. Pastor Karen Carr and Rev. Jimmy Hagadorn will officiate with interment to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Baker County Assembly of God in Newton. Born June 24, 1944 in Griffin, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late John Lee and Elsie Jackson Whitfield. She was a homemaker that loved to cook and would do all she could to help others. She will be remembered as devout Christian who loved Jesus and put others first. She proudly taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of Open Door Fellowship of Sylvester. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Mary Whitfield that she greatly loved and her grandparents who raised her, Elijah and Ella Whitfield. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, J.W. Smith of Albany; children, Homer Smith of Albany, La-Reka and Casey Smith of Woodson, TX and Kebbie and Jerry Carrington of Watkinsville, GA; sisters, Debbie and Roy Weeks of LaFayette, Carrol and Earl Echols of Griffin and Vickie Tumblin of Temple, TX and 9 grandchildren.
