June 17, 1950 — June 15, 2022

MGySgt. John Arthur Wesley, USMC (Ret.), passed to Post Everlasting on June 15, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife Sue; his seven children, Jeremiah, Sarah, Jackie, Jessica, Julia, Jennifer, and Bubba; his three grandchildren, TJ, Dawson, and John Michael; his four brothers Bob, Glenn, Rick, and Jim; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was born to Patricia Ann McDermott Steller on June 17, 1950, in Springfield, Illinois. Upon graduation from high school in 1968, John fulfilled his childhood ambition and joined the United States Marine Corps wherein he served with distinction, for the next 26 years. During this time John was stationed in California, Hawaii, North Carolina, Georgia, and Okinawa. In 1991, John deployed to Iraq as part of the Marine Corps contingent of the U. S. forces in the First Gulf War. His final active-duty station was served at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Georgia. He retired from active duty in 1994. A year after his retirement, John was recruited as a civilian by the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany as a civilian employee. He was recruited because of his level of knowledge and professionalism. He served with distinction in this capacity for the next 20 years. John and Sue and their children settled in Leesburg, Georgia during his civilian service and remained there following his retirement from his civilian position with the Marine Corps. He was happy with his second career because it permitted him to continue working with the Marines. In his mind, he never stopped being a Marine. It was during this time that he met his best friend Pat Mardon (Mr. Pat), Sergeant Major (retired), United States Marine Corps. They remained fast friends to the end. Never one to relax, John spent the remainder of his life as a property owner and small businessman in and around Leesburg. He loved his family, his brothers and his friends, and did all he could to keep them close to him. He enjoyed laughing, playing cards, and holding his grandchildren. He was intelligent, uncomplicated, and fiercely loyal to those he loved. Three Bells, Master Gunnery Sergeant John A. Wesley departing. . .
