Mrs. Mary Gamble Fender, 80, of Thomasville, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, in the chapel of Joseph W. Jones Funeral Home of Leesburg with Pastor Dennis McChargue officiating. Visitation will be held the morning of the service, from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Following the service, at 1:00 p.m., she will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Americus at 120 Upper River Road, Americus, GA 31709. Mrs. Fender was born December 7, 1939, in Americus, to the late Alford and Evelyn McChargue. She spent her days as a homemaker caring for her children and family. Mrs. Fender was a huge sports fanatic and always made sure to keep up with her favorite sports teams including the New Orleans Saints, Georgia Bulldogs, and Atlanta Braves. One of her favorite hobbies was “junkin” as she referred to it, where she would go shopping at Goodwill. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she would spend hours upon hours decorating her house to a tee. Mrs. Fender even won a competition once for the Christmas decorations on the outside of her home. Above all, she was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Henton Gamble, second husband, Mal Fender; son, Stephen Allen Gamble; and siblings, Harold, Ralph, Howard, Hank, and Elizabeth. Survivors include her beloved daughters, Vicky Hubbs (Steve) of Leesburg, and Nancy Scheider (Butch) of Thomasville; granddaughters, Angel Dunlop (Aaron) of Leesburg, and Tonya Sexton (Jeff) of Jacksonville, FL; and two great-grandchildren, Brady and Paisley Dunlop.
