John William Smith

Mr. John William “J.W.” Smith, 83, of Albany, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, November 4, 2018. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Open Door Fellowship Church in Sylvester. Pastor Karen Carr and Rev. Jimmy Hagadorn will officiate with interment to follow at 2:00 p.m., at Baker County Assembly of God Cemetery in Newton. Born June 3, 1935 in Baker County, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Clifford C. Smith, Sr. and Amy Virginia Parker Smith. A 1956 graduate of Albany High School, Mr. Smith served his country in the United States Army and worked in construction. He loved The Lord and enjoyed helping and encouraging others in their walk with God. He was a member of Open Door Fellowship Church of Sylvester, had served in different churches as Sunday school director and was a board member. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Whitfield Smith. Survivors include his children, Homer Smith of Albany, Kebbie Carrington of Leesburg and La-Reka Smith (Casey) of Woodson, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Lowell and Barbara Smith of Byron; sister, Martha Everson of Albany and nine grandchildren, Justin, Joshua, Bobby, Daniel, Dalton, Kevin, Kaysen, Delilah, and Shylie.
