John H. Murphy, Jr.

July 3, 1930 — June 25, 2022

Mr. John H. Murphy, Jr., 91, peacefully passed away on June 25, 2022, at Willson Hospice House in Albany. A private celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. Born July 3, 1930, in Evanston, Illinois, he was the son of the late John H. Murphy Sr. and Jeannie Walker Murphy. John graduated from The University of Miami with a bachelor's degree in radio and television production, then joined the United States Army in 1952 where he served in the Signal Corp through 1954. His career began in Miami, Florida at the local NBC affiliate and he later went on to open his own independent insurance agency for the majority of his career. After retirement, he, and his beloved wife Marjorae retired to central Florida in the late 1990’s. A beloved father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marjorae Brown Murphy whom he was married to for 54 years until the time of her passing in 2008; and his only sibling, Jean Marie Stickrod. Those left to cherish his memory include his son, John H. Murphy, III and wife Tammy of Lee County; his grandson, John H. Murphy, IV “Jonathon” of Washington DC; daughter, Melinda and her three grown children.
