James Lucius Hayes

Mr. James Lucius Hayes, 88, of Leesburg, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

A memorial service honoring his life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Cuthbert with Pastor David Blackwell officiating.

Born July 16, 1935, in Blakely, Mr. Hayes was the son of the late John and Louise Sims Hayes. He proudly served our country in the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. Under the GI bill he attended Cincinnati School of Embalming and worked in the funeral profession for a while. He later married his wife and went to work for Merck and Company in Albany where he retired after many years. He was of the Baptist faith, loved God, his family, his country, and will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hayes was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sybil Holley Hayes who passed away on November 11, 2013.

Those left to cherish his memory include his three sons, James Michael Hayes and Abie of Frederick, MD, Richard Craig Hayes of Albany, and Ronald Greg Hayes and Candy of Leesburg; 5 grandchildren, Sinjin, Nathan, Emily, Clay, and Melanie.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Mt. Hebron Baptist Church at the address of Joyce Lumpkin 274 Snapper Rd. Colman GA 39836.
