Mr. James “Jim” Samuel Durham, 78, of Albany, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025.
Born on November 19, 1946, in Moultrie, Jim was the son of the late Lonnie and Mary Joines Durham. After graduating from high school, he went to South Georgia Technical College in Americus where he obtained a degree. Shortly after graduating he enlisted in The United States Navy where he served two terms in Vietnam as a Seabee. After proudly serving his country he returned to Macon Georgia where he worked for Yancey Brothers as a mechanic. He then moved to Albany where he worked for Carlton Company and retired in 2007 as rental manager. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church of Albany where he was Junior Warden and helped with scripture readings and serving of communion. He greatly enjoyed cooking for his church family and the many times of memorable fellowship. In his free time, he mostly enjoyed time with his beloved wife and family, but also greatly enjoyed time spent reading. He was an avid fisherman who greatly enjoyed fishing in the flats, getting on a good brim bed and later on found fly fishing to be his passion. He was also known to host an excellent fish fry. A loving husband, father, brother, uncle and great-uncle he will be greatly missed until we meet again.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents that he deeply loved and who helped raise him, “Shug” and “Granddaddy Durham.”
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 34 years, Barbara Durham; daughter, Jennifer Marie Durham of Sylvester; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Debra Allen of Parrott; niece, Jennifer Craft and Brandon of LaGrange and their children, Flint and Eden.
Plans for his service will be announced soon by Joseph W. Jones Home of Leesburg.
