Homer Lee Bates

Mr. Homer Lee Bates, 74, of Leesburg, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Lee County Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Joseph W. Jones Funeral Home of Leesburg with visitation one hour prior from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Following the services, he will be laid to rest in the Leesburg Cemetery. Rev. Matt Harrell will officiate. Born July 14, 1947, in Moultrie, he was the son of the late Walstine and Ruby Bates. He retired from MacGregor Golf as a production manager and in his free time enjoyed fishing, hunting, and mechanic work. Mr. Bates was of the Christian faith and more than anything loved his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Mae Howard Bates; brother, Truman Bates; and sister, Deloris Barfield. Survivors include his children, Michael Bates (Michelle) of Albany, Keith Bates of Leesburg, and Sharron Shaffer (Daniel) of South Carolina; his 4 sisters, Barbara Monroe of Atlanta, Mary Carpenter of Savannah, Janell Collins of Albany, and Jackie Brown of Maine; and his 6 grandchildren, Chris, Kayla, Kenneth, Michael, Craig, and Emily; and 6 great grandchildren. Joseph W. Jones Funeral Home was given the honor to serve the Bates family.
