Helen Worthy Kennedy

Mrs. Helen Worthy Kennedy, 75, of Leesburg, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Leesburg Cemetery. Rev. Bobby Harrell, Dr. Todd Sullens and Rev. Greg Icard will officiate. Born December 29, 1942 in Edison, Mrs. Kennedy was the daughter of the late John Gordon Worthy and Carolyn Woods Worthy. She worked in the banking industry for over 38 years and retired from Colony Bank of Leesburg. She volunteered with The American Red Cross and The American Heart Association. She also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves, western shows and Fox News. She was a founding member of the Civitan Club of Leesburg and The Lee County Women’s Club. Mrs. Kennedy was baptized at nine years old and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Leesburg. When visiting their farm in Quitman they also attended Okapilco Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kennedy was preceded in death by her brother, Lucius Worthy; father and mother-in-law, Hogue and Beatrice Kennedy. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, LaVan A. Kennedy of Leesburg; son and daughter-in-law, Tod M. (Andrea) Kennedy of Leesburg; daughter, Dawn K. Ware of LaGrange; grandchildren, Brantley (Elizabeth) Kennedy, Marylen Kennedy, Brycen Kennedy all of Leesburg and Rachel Ware of LaGrange; 2 sister-in-law’s, Pauline Worthy of Leesburg and Virginia Kennedy Crump of Tuscaloosa, AL; nieces and nephews, Sarah Worthy, Mark Worthy (Tiffany), Cathy Dockery (Donny), Carol Sanders (Bobby) and Bill Crump. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Leesburg, PO BOX 1009 Leesburg, GA 31763. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 Friday evening at Joseph W. Jones Funeral Home, 375 US Highway 19 S. Leesburg, GA 31763.
