Carolyn Tillis Crew

February 9, 1926 — April 1, 2022

Mrs. Carolyn Tillis Crew was born on February 9, 1926, in Havana, FL, and passed away on April 1, 2022, in Albany, GA. The daughter of the late Osceola Merrity Tillis and Mary Elma Turner Tillis, Carolyn attended Florida State College for Women, now Florida State University, in the 1940s. She married the late Leonard Elmer Crew on October 18, 1953. They were married for 44 years until his death in 1997, and raised two children in the home he built for her in Whigham, GA. Carolyn was an active part of the community and a member of Whigham United Methodist Church, where she faithfully played the piano during services for more than 40 years. She was an avid reader who loved Braves baseball, jigsaw puzzles, trivia, and storytelling. Through the years, she also spent thousands of hours crocheting - including hundreds of baby blankets which have been given as special gifts to friends and family across the country. A little piece of her lives on in each one of those blankets. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Virginia Stephens. She is survived by her son Gary Crew (Linda) of Tallahassee, FL, daughter Cindy Dixon (Larry) of Leesburg, GA, and one granddaughter Casey Dixon of Nashville, TN. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the employees of Phoenix at Albany and Agape Hospice for the wonderful care given to Carolyn in these last years. Plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Joseph W. Jones Funeral Home of Leesburg has been given the honor to serve Mrs. Crew’s family. Joseph W. Jones Funeral Home Leesburg, GA 229-814-1415
